SUMMARY OF CONTROL PROCEDURES TO PREVENT DAMAGES CAUSED BY CONTAMINANTS

AVOID damage by evaluating the potential interactions between objects and pollutants
- evaluate potential interactions between objects and pollutants

AVOID indoor sources
- carefully select and use products
- minimize the presence or the generation of pollutants

AVOID outdoor source
- minimize the presence and the generation of pollutants
BLOCK transfer (deposition or sorption) of pollutants on objects
- block contact between object and product containing pollutants
- apply a barrier film on objects' surface

BLOCK emission of pollutants from products
- apply a barrier film on products's surface

BLOCK infiltration of pollutants in enclosures
- use airtight enclosures
- use filtered positive pressure systems

BLOCK infiltration of pollutants in rooms/building
- install objects into airtight non-emissive enclosures
- insert efficient vapour phase and particle filters in the HVAC system
DETECT deteriorations
- inspect signs of deterioration on objects and on enclosures' and building's products

DETECT pollutants in enclosures and in rooms/building
- do in situ monitoring of pollutants

DETECT other reactants, catalysts, temperature and radiation in enclosures and in rooms/building
- monitor the other reactants, catalysts, temperature and radiations
RESPOND to the reactivity of pollutants on objects
- reduce minor reactants and catalysts involved in the deterioration processes
- reduce the temperature and the radiations
- reduce the exposure time

RESPOND to the pollutants present in products
- removal of the pollutants from the product
- neutralization of the pollutants in the product

RESPOND to high level of pollutants in enclosures
- reduce pollutants' level
- reduce other reactants' and catalysts' level involved in the generation of pollutants
- reduce the temperature and the radiations

RESPOND to high level of pollutants in rooms/building
- reduce pollutants' level
- reduce other reactants' and catalysts' level involved in the generation of pollutants
- reduce the temperature and the radiations

RESPOND to the detection of pollutants or damage on objects
- protect objects from the harmful environment or from contaminated surfaces
- apply mitigation procedures
- reevaluate the Avoid, Block and Detect strategies
TREAT damaged objects
- treat objects for limiting further damage
